Better Choices is committed to supporting schools and colleges in setting up, maintaining and making the best use of their Connexions/careers libraries, we provide a consultancy service to help with this.
Consultancy time can be used to examine and discuss topics such as:
- Best location
- Layout and organisation for the library
- Accessibility
- Systems to maintain it in a comprehensive, current and simple-to-use style
- Suitable content – reference books and other materials suitable for the intended audience
- Support and advice on the use of software packages and CLIPS.
Work carried out so far in schools and colleges includes:
- General advice on development of Connexions/careers libraries
- Suggestions for making a mainstream school’s Connexions/careers library more accessible to students with special needs
- Practical help with organisation or reorganisation of materials,
- Training library monitors and library staff
- Training Year 9 students, Sixth Form College tutors, Year 9 and Year 10 tutors and other teachers to use software packages.
Students who we train as library monitors receive a certificate outlining the training and skills acquired.
