On 20 October, the National Muslim Women's Advisory Group launched "Our choices: new careers for Muslim women",- a website, booklet and roadshow featuring real stories of Muslim women working as a police officer, fire officer, nurse, engineer, store manager, rugby player, trade union official, journalist, artist, scientist, entrepreneur and humanitarian worker.

Two of the 12 role models are from the North West: Sobia Yasin, the first uniformed officer in Greater Manchester Police to wear hijab and Mez Mohmed, a district nurse working in Blackburn.

On 11 March next year, Manchester City Council will host the roadshow at the Town Hall, as part of the International Women's Week celebrations.

The aim of the project is to raise aspirations of Muslim girls and give them confidence to pursue their own dreams and ambitions.
