When you go to university it might be the first time that you’ve been away from home for any length of time, so it’s bound to feel strange, and you could be apprehensive or excited at the prospect. You won’t be the first or the only one – so universities have student services that are geared up to help you settle in. Check the university prospectus, or visit their website; quite often there’s an ‘alternative’ prospectus that’s been written by students at the university.

Here are some websites that are worth visiting:

  • HERO can give you useful information about finding accommodation, managing your money and surviving university!
  • National Union of Students (NUS) is the student organisation that represents the interests of around three million students in further and higher education throughout the United Kingdom.
  • Visit Support4learning to find links to all finance and benefit sites for students within UK higher education.
  • StudentZone has information on academic life, possible careers, travel, and social activities like sport and entertainment.
