If you are over 13 it is legal to work for a few hours whilst you’re still at school - for example delivering newspapers, working in a shop, office or cafe. Once you’ve been offered a job you will need to apply for a work permit from the Local Authority. The application for a work permit must be signed by you, your parents and the employer. When the work permit is issued it will be sent to you and your employer notified that you have a permit to work.
