Connexions Tameside

Discretionary Learner Support grant started in September 2011. 

It is managed by schools, colleges and training providers.

This is money you get for going to college or training.
  

If you stay at your school and go into year 12 you may get Discretionary Learner Support because this is the same as going to college.
  

How much you get may depend on how much money your parents have.

Students most in need can get a bursary of £1,200 a year. This group includes:

• people in care
• care leavers
• people claiming income support
• disabled young people who receive Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance

Your Discretionary Learner Support or bursary will be paid straight into your bank account.

You will need to open a bank account.

You need to go to all your classes to get your funding every week.
